Mr. Scoops

Scoops is a toy project that I work for the \"production materials and technology\" design class.
The foundation of the project is the design and construction of a working prototype of a mechanical toy, as well as the expectation of workmanship and function.
The idea of the toy originally came from the Fisher Price Corn toy, which uses a push technique that causes pop-up movement of plastic balls within a transparent dome.
I extracted the working mechanism from the original toy and changed the dome shape design of corn Poole by adding a more individual child
Friendly \"ice cream truck Man\" character. 1. Linkage 2. Spring 3. Platform 4.
Plastic shaft 5. Axle 6.
The corn Poole toy has a very basic \"pop-up mechanism \".
It consists of connecting rod, spring, platform, plastic shaft, axle attached to the wheel.
The spring and connecting rod will be placed in the indented housing on the platform and then closed together with the plastic shaft (Through the key-
Hole shape on connecting rod).
There is a slight dent in the center of the wheel axle, and when turned, a small spring-loaded connecting rod is caught in the center of the body.
Therefore, when the toy is activated or pushed on the ground, it causes the dents of the axle to rotate and capture onto the link hook as shown.
Once the axle moves about 180 degrees in the opposite direction, the connecting rod is released from the Dent of the axle, causing it to react to the pop-up motion.
The main housing as well as the platform, housing, two linkage mechanisms and the front and rear lights are modeled based on a 3d CAD program called SolidWorks and printed using FDM rapid prototyping printer.
Remove the springs, shafts, plastic balls and wheels from the original corn Poole toy and use them.
Then the extra decos (

The use of sticker decals attached.
Material: 3d printed polyurethane foam PTEG Sheet sandpaper (
Sand: 220, 320, 600)Spray Paint (
Choice of 2 different colors)Primer (x2 cans)
Corn Poole: masking tape for wheels epoxy/Krazy Glue Dremel (x2)Axle (x2)Spring (x2)Plastic Shaft (x2)Plastic Balls (x8)
Preferred decoration: the moustache letter decal ice cream sticker creates the upper body through a process called vacuum molding.
This is a technology that uses molds to shape plastic (
Wood, steel, foam, etc).
For this particular project, I used a dense polyurethane foam that was cut and formed with different tools such as band saw, disc sander and sandpaper.
The upper housing is designed to meet the ergonomic purpose of the toy handle.
By adding a cap, my design is to provide a favorable \"handle\" for the user \".
To shape the overall shape of the foam mold, start with 100 sand sandpaper, scrape the foam to the desired overall shape, and then move up about 600 of the sand to get a smooth surface finish.
The prominent eye should be a piece separate from the main body and attach tape to make it easier to release from the molded plastic.
The above is the basic size of the upper shell foam mold.
The casing should be used as a guide for approximate measurement and forming down.
First polish the surface of the 3d printed part with 220 sandpaper.
The purpose of this is for a smooth surface finish and flush fitting for each part.
When grinding the surface, it is polished in a circular motion until the surface is smooth and flat.
By polishing the edges and ridges, make sure the different parts work together. An egg shell-
Like a uniform surface finish, use the primer before coloring.
I used a white primer for the White details left on the body, Shell and top cap.
Once these parts are masked, you can skip the process of checking with white paint.
Start by covering up the unwanted part of the upper shell (
All parts except eyes and squeeze hat).
I fixed the masking process with scraps of paper.
Make sure the edges of the mask are beautiful, sharp and stick firmly to it.
Then start to polish the light coating on all surfaces (600grit)
Between each coat
Spray about 3-4 coats.
The primer should dry less time than painting.
Once the primer is completely dry, start covering up the white details you want to keep. Then lay on 3-
Apply another 4 layers of color paint on the required area.
After the paint is completely dry, start assembling the parts. 1.
Use epoxy/krazy Glue to glue the wheel to the axle inside the main body. 2.
Place the spring inside the small shell on the platform and use the small shaft to fasten the connecting rod through the holes in the key shape. 3.
Install the platform into the main enclosure. 4.
Place the ice cream cone and upper shell on the main body and glue the shell on the main body.
Then combine other preferred decorations such as facial features, writing, headlights and taillights.
